After the abstract submission deadline (the 8th of September), there will be a period of 7 days in which your abstract will be processed. We will establish whether the paper is your original creation, determine if it was presented in any other student congress and make sure it follows our writing guidelines. If your paper is suitable (most cases), you will be notified. If not, we will notify you via email of the concerns raised in your paper and whether or not you can rectify them. A jury of doctors will examine your research and all selected abstracts for Oral & Poster Presentations and for the Debate Competition will be announced on our website, social media pages and also via the registered email.

Yes, all the active participants can submit up to 2 abstracts, one for the Debate Competition and the other one for Poster or Oral Presentations.

The last day for registrations is the 8th of October!

All abstracts are sent to a team of reviewers composed of medical doctors or specialists in the field, who evaluate the abstracts based on a list of 5 objective criteria, each with 20 points. There will be 3 separate teams of reviewers, one for each of the 3 main scientific categories: Original Study/ Cohort Study/ Clinical Study, Review/ Meta-analysis, Case Report.

The winning team is going to be selected based on 4 criteria: scientific content, time management, linguistic skills and persuasion. All criteria have a maximum of 10 points and the winning team is going to be selected based on the sum of all points of the two teammates.

There will also be a prize for the best speaker which will be selected by the public. Therefore, in this section of the Scientific Competition we encourage questions both from the public and the opposing team, in order to have a broad understanding of each team’s view and the use of the technique they chose to present.

The Certificates of Attendance will be awarded to all participants who met the required criteria, which are the following:

For Active Participants:

• The Scalpel Touch Pack: attending their booked workshop and conference, the Scientific Competition to which they have been accepted, vote at the Poster Presentation;
• The Beyond the Blade Pack: attending 2 booked workshops, 1 conference of their choice, the Scientific Competition to which they have been accepted, 1 Live in a Box or Panel Discussion, vote at the Poster Presentation;
• The Art of Surgery Pack: attending 3 booked workshops, 1 conference of their choice, the Scientific Competition to which they have been accepted, 1 Live in a Box or Panel Discussion, vote at the Poster Presentation.

For Passive Participants:

• The Scalpel Touch Pack: attending their booked workshop and conference, 1 of the Scientific Competition events (Oral Presentation/Debate Competition) or the Surgical Trivia Competition, vote at the Poster Presentation;
• The Beyond the Blade Pack: attending 2 booked workshops, 1 conference of their choice, 1 Live in a Box or Panel Discussion, 1 of the Scientific Competition events (Oral Presentation/Debate Competition) or the Surgical Trivia Competition, vote at the Poster Presentation;
• The Art of Surgery Pack: attending 3 booked workshops, 1 conference of their choice, 1 Live in a Box or Panel Discussion, 1 of the Scientific Competition events (Oral Presentation/Debate Competition) or the Surgical Trivia Competition, vote at the Poster Presentation.

If the presenting author can no longer deliver the Presentation after its acceptance, they have the right to designate one of the co-authors for substitution in order to deliver the speech, but only if the respective co-author is already registered as a passive participant and meets the eligibility criteria for active participation. They have the obligation of announcing the congress organisers at least 48 hours before the established date and time of the Scientific Competition. They must also announce the name of the co-author who will deliver the presentation.

You can upload your abstract into your Active Participant account once we announce that abstract submission is open, via email and on our social media platforms.

If the abstract you submit is NOT accepted in the Scientific Competition, you can still attend the Congress as a Passive Participant.

If I want to submit an abstract for the Debate, can I submit another one for the Oral & Poster Presentations competition?

Yes, all the active participants can submit up to 2 abstracts, one for the Debate Competition and the other one for Poster or Oral Presentations.

The participants in the Oral Presentation section of the Scientific Competition are graded based on scientific content, idea organization, presentation and speech delivery. The three best Oral Presentations are selected.

The participants in the Poster Competition section of the Scientific Competition are graded based on scientific content, poster design and speech delivery. The three best Poster Presentations are selected. There will also be a Public’s Vote for the best poster.

The final Scientific Programme will be announced on our official website and social media platforms at least three days before the beginning of the booking procedure.

You will be able to book your events on this website during the Booking Period, on the 13th of October if you have purchased The Art of Surgery Pack pack, or on the 14th and 15th of October if you have purchased The Scalpel Touch Pack or The Beyond the Blade Pack pack. We will announce the booking procedure at that time.

During the Panel Discussion, a group of 3 to 5 surgeons come together to discuss current advancements and issues in their specific field of surgery. This interactive event allows participants to hear expert opinions, engage in discussion and ask questions. It is an invaluable opportunity for participants to gain insights from leading professionals and enhance their understanding of the complex surgical landscape.

Scalpel Talk is an event during which participants will have the unique opportunity to engage with world-renowned surgeons and ask questions about their career path, accomplishments and challenges faced in their professional journey. This event aims to provide insights and inspiration for students wishing to enter the surgical field, offering firsthand knowledge and advice from some of the top surgeons in the world.

The Surgical Trivia competition is an event where 4 teams of medical students test their surgical knowledge and enhance their problem-solving abilities. It is a fast-paced educational contest that prepares participants for real-life situations.

Booking your practical session will be available after registrations end, in the My account section. We will announce the exact dates at that moment.

The booking procedure will be split in 3 days. Day 1 is Premium Day, when all participants with premium packs will be able to book their practical sessions - they have the chance to book from all places available at our practical sessions. Do not forget that only 2 out of the 3 practical sessions from Premium packs have priority.

Day 2 is for everyone! Half of the places that remain available for each practical session will be opened for booking. During the second day, all participants will be able to book practical sessions, including those with Premium packs for the 3rd practical session or those who did not book their practical sessions during the first day.

Day 3 is for last chances! If you didn’t get the chance to book your desired practical session on Day 2, you have one more shot. All participants have the chance to book from the other half of the available places. Therefore, everyone gets two chances to book their favourite practical session, so don’t lose hope!
