The ability to restore sight has inspired doctors to envision a world in which blindness vanishes, with the help of modern science. Cataract surgery is a very common procedure, for more than 50% of people over the age of 80. An intraocular lens is used to replace the cloudy one, through a small incision. The procedure usually ends with full recovery, which can take up to eight weeks.
We invite you to learn more, with the help of our next speaker, Prof. Sanduk Ruit, MD, FRACO, the surgeon who has restored sight to 130,000 blind people at the Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology. Graduating at the top of his class at All India Medical College and developing his skills in Australia, he managed to found his own clinic and is now treating up to 1500 patients a day.
Besides teaching new generations of young doctors, he also reaches out to vulnerable populations, offering medical assistance, quickly earning the nickname of "God of Sight". Prof. Ruit, MD, FRACO has worked to promote "A world in which nobody is needlessly visually impaired, where those with unavoidable vision loss can achieve their full potential."
If you are curious to find out more about his work, join us in the next chapter of SURGICON!
