If you wish to engage in the Scientific Competition, you must register as an active participant.
Being an active participant means being a presenting author of a scientific paper (Oral or Poster Presentation) or a participant in the Debate Competition. Co-authors of a scientific paper may register as active participants only if they are presenting authors of a different scientific paper. Otherwise, they can be passive participants or non-attending.
Presenting authors and Debate participants have the responsibility to send an abstract before the 2nd of October 2020. For more information about the Scientific Competition and abstract submission guidelines, check the Student Scientific Competition section.
This type of participation is suited for medical or biomedical students (including first-year students at the time of the congress). Graduates who are no longer medical/biomedical students cannot be active participants. Members of the SURGICON 2020 Organising Committee, as well as any volunteers directly involved in the organisation of the Scientific Competition cannot register as active participants.
Yes, of course! And we highly encourage you to do so.
If you have just been admitted to a medical university, SURGICON is a great first step towards your life as a student. By attending this congress, you will be introduced to surgeons to look up to, research subjects, surgical procedures, and you will become familiar with your colleagues and peers from all across the world.
If the abstract you submit is NOT accepted in the Scientific Competition, you can still attend the Congress as a Passive Participant: your account will be converted to a Passive participant account by default.
Passive participants can attend all events organised during the Congress, but they cannot be a Presenting author or an Active participant in the Debate Competition.
This type of participation is suited for medical or biomedical students (including first-year students at the time of the congress), graduates, resident physicians, attending physicians, researchers of medical fields and representatives of the medical industry. PhD students and graduates who are no longer medical/biomedical students can register only as Passive participants.
You can register as a passive participant until the 16th of October included!
You can update your account from Passive to Active for free in the Extras section of your account, as long as you take the responsibility of submitting an abstract before the submission deadline (2nd of October 2020). After the list of accepted abstracts is announced, if your abstract was not accepted, your account will become Passive by default, as it was initially.

Both types of participation include a digital copy of the Certificate of Attendance. Your participation will be registered in our website at the beginning of each event in order to keep track of your attendance and verify if the Certificate of Attendance criteria were met. We will register your participation only if you access the events through our official website (www.surgicon.ro), in the My account page.
In order to receive your certificate, you will have to meet the following criteria:
must attend the Scientific Competition in the session to which you have been accepted (Posters, Oral Presentations, Debate Competition);
must attend at least one event of each of the other types of scientific activities (conferences and live surgeries/ live in a box cases).
must attend at least two events of each type of scientific activities (conferences, live surgeries/live in a box cases, Scientific Competition).
If you do not meet the participation criteria you will not receive the Certificate of Attendance. Certificates of Attendance will become available for download on your account shortly after SURGICON ends and you will be able to access it and download it for a period of 6 months following the congress.
